Comments: Just food for thought!? Read on melbranch and his argument on the existence of god. The argument is solid (for now at least). Also check out dualist theories, they describe that reality is ultimately something more fundamental than mental and philosophic materialism. Unfortunately no one can be told what our matrix is you have to see it for youreself.

Comments: Food for thought regarding reference to tie to the film? Read on Melbranche and his argument on the existence of god. It's pretty good..it completely knocks the foundation of philosophic materialism. Also reading into the dualist school of thought shows u to new doors. But i can only show them to you. You have to open them and go inside?

It was so great to read your thoughts - I knew there was SOMETHING there, but your eloquence in study proved to further solidify my ideas :) God Bless You Brother!! Comments: Although there are some good points made about the symbolic elements in the movie, I think for the most part it was a pretty circumstancial argument. I mean, the 72 second 72 hour thing? That's ridiculous. I certainly hope that the creators of this movie did not purposely do that because if they did, they have far too much time on their hands. I am a firm believer that this movie is not religiously motivated, but instead has a strong anarchist theme to it. It is all about bringing down an establishment that each of us have been bred to believe in since we were born. I would just say to take a look at other alternatives before you proclaim this to be a Messiah movie.

I was going to develop a section of my web page to include an analysis of how the Matrix is a modern-day story of the coming of Christ - all of my friends thought I was looking into it WAY too much! I thought it was rather obvious, myself. And then I was going to go into the symbolism of Plato's allegory of the cave, and I see that you touch upon that as well as many other themes I haven't even begun to examine. I am here to say that this is the best movie I have ever seen in my life, and I am glad that you have this website to point out its magnificence!!

Comments: I do agree with much of your comments (with small reservations such as about the one about 3 days and 72 sec. coincidence!) I would like to add one more note on the Christian Trinity within the movie. Just like in the biblðical account father-son-holy spirit trilogy perfectly works. In the most accepted rather neo-platonic conceptialisation, Father=content, son=form, holy spirit, the element which establishes the connection between form and content.(one should not forget to add that all parts carry within themselves the other parts: in christian terminology 3 is 1: the hocus pocus of dialectics) Now if we reverse this neoplatonic conception to a materialistic one we find out a trilogy more fitting to our century and to our film. (the film is about us not about future; one should read baudrillard for that, the book which we see in the very beginning of the film 'on Simulacrum and Simulacra') Anyway I view Morpheaus ('form' in Latin) as the Father, who gives a 'form' to his Son 'neo': A new form has to be given to the state of things in order to attain a emancipated world? I think you are perfectly right about Trinity and her LOVE thing, which a little bit disturbs me by the way; but we should add that it is the link between form-content. what this acknowledgement brings us? Much... Let's reflect on Marx's words: 'they do not KNOW but they DO' and 'all science would be spurflous if the outward appereance and essence had been one and the same' In other words it is the scientist' s duty to restore the Reality instead of the distracted, surface reality which we may call the ideological nature of everyday life: but this is not enough; we may as well take a look at marx's 11th thesis on Feurbach: One must ACT. Enough for Marx though; similar things are said by Hegel(at least by what I understand of him) and Goethe especially in his Faust. My insertion of Marx was delibarate for... The film is also about Nietzche: an enigma for me for how can you interrelate Christ story with the anti-Christ Nietzche? Or can you? This is the question to ask I think. As to the movie being 'A' Messiah story, I shall totally agree with you and presume to claim that this does not make the movie something to get excited about, for all the Western Literature one way or another IS or about Christ story. If you write to me I can prove that believe me. It is an exciting movie though becouse it presents us the totalitarian nature of our society. I' ll appreciate if you write back. Thanks for preparing such a site.

Comments: Great site! I think that the parallels are obvious to someone that knows Christ, and hopfully your site will show somebody the way... and they will read the real story, straight from the bible. I do think that some of the parallels are a stretch, though :) I notice a few posting from the buhai religion urging people to go to thier site. Its funny because buhai will admit that Jesus is a messanger from god, they believe that there is a new one every so many years... however they just seem to omit the part about Jesus proclaiming himself the son of God, and the only way to salvation (which he is) and that ALL so called massiahs after him are fake, and not from god. Buhai are funny people. So if you are at this site and searching for a savior, don't waste your time at the buhai site, you only get confused... People! You don't need to search for a savior, your savior has been here, loving you all this time, you only need to open your eyes and follow him. Peace in him, Brian

Comments: Thanks so much for the web site. I like so many am captivated by the Matrix. I especially appreciate the Miracle that took place when Neo was reborn. He was no longer the boy/man Neo (with a lot of Thomas A. Anderson still within) -- He was reborn into the True Neo -- a Real Man no longer bound by the rules of the Matrix. Morpheus had prophisied that when he was ready he would no longer need to dodge bullets. With his rebirth he truly had power over them. I see this in the inner development of a person from a puppet to a Real Person. Look, anyone who pays attention can see that they (others too, but what's important is that the individual see this about their self) are constantly "dodging bullets". Fear of how other people see me, fear of financial insecurity, fear that I won't get MY way, resentments toward anyone or any thing that gets in my way, or doesn't appreciate me for what a gift I certainly am to humanity etc. etc. etc. A Spiritual Awakening can ( it doesn't have to) take place in a person's life and suddenly all the fears, anxieties, confusion etc.that are generated by the false self (ego --the Matrix) are simply no longer real. One has been removed from it all. Does the Light get battered about by the storm? And yes, the bullets were real -- in the Movie he picked one out to examine it. But all their power, for Neo, had vanished. Beautiful story! Even more beautiful to Live It! Freedom from slavery. If we are here for anything else than that, we are more enslaved than we can even begin to imagine. Take care, JW

Their reactions to it are great whether they like it or not. Its funny how people see films so differently. The faith aspect "I don't believe in not being in control of my own life"...."I know exactly what you mean" made me think about the paths we take and whether each path is set for each individual and it just depends on which one you choose to take. Also, whether or not you can alter these paths in any way if you find out "the truth", if "the truth" is not the world we live in.

Comments: The Matrix is alright - but not that good. The reason my nickname is Cypher has got nothing to do with the charecter in the film - its because I'm a budhist- i also feel that you are wrong when you say that Neo's plight is the same as Jesus'-It is much more like Ghandi's-apart from the part where he's reborn. But not really because all Budhist's are reborn through meditation when they first enter the religion- if you would like more information please contact 01782 62 61 92

The Matrix is a movie. a very good movie, but still, JUST A MOVIE. i really don't think any of your parralells were intended by the makers of this movie. sure there's some biblical names, but that's because they sound cool. Any loser with the ability to make a web page could parralell any movie in existence to the bible or christianity in some way. i'm sure you could even do it to Whinnie the Pooh or even Dr. Suess. Comments: I have recently seen The Matrix on video, once at a cousin's house and then again at home after I ran out and rented it for myself. I will see it again at the movie theatre (it is still playing at discount theatres here). The movie floored me with it's special effects, but mainly with it's overall message. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and immediately drew many parallels of my own, not only to Jesus' first life, but to his second coming. The writers obviously meant for the audience to compare Neo to Jesus, they mentioned his name often enough (in quite a rude way). In the beginning Neo is even referred to as a "Savior" and as Jesus Christ in jest. I found your web site by running a search for "The Matrix". I wanted to find out if anyone else noticed all of the things I did. I am happy to say you noticed more. I never put together Trinity's name with "The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost". I appreciate the conclusions you have drawn and would like to thank you for introducing many people (some for the first time) to Jesus Christ.

Comments: Okay, let's give it a rest. I don't think Jesus would go around killing Musliums or Jews the way Neo killed all the security guards in the movie. I do see a few parallels, but if you see Star Wars, you could draw religious refrences from it, or any movie that you sit and think about too long. Just because it has some references, does that make it prophetic. No. One could even believe that it is trying to bring Bruce Lee back. Who picked up the refrences to Bruce? The thumbing of the nose in the sparring program, and the "Come Hither" hand guesture? If you place your faith in this movie instead of the Bible, you are in essence worshiping false idols. As far as the use of the names such as Zion, if a situation like this occured, I think people WOULD use these kinds of names for the spiritual strength of them. Christanity IS not what the movie is about.

The only suggestion that I have is that maybe you should give more information to compare to. What i mean is when you say something about how the movie relates to Jesus's life you might want to say more about Jesus's life. Though i am not one of these there are people who are not Christian or do not know Jesus's life. That is all Thanks, Dan

Comments: Just a few comments for the 'geniuses' who post here. 1.) The Matrix is one of the most biblically correct movies I have ever seen. Don't try to tell me there is no religion, no message. There is a message in everything we say and do...look around - it's God in our lives that puts that message there. 2.) Grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Most of us learned it in elementary school or high school. The rest of you should check it out. 3.) I read "Conversations With God" by Neale David Walsh......I can't comfortably recommend any book that flat-out states that Satan (or his legion of demons) does not exist. But it goes even farther by telling us that the Bible is not a credible source of Christian information. Some of you need to wake up and stop searching for the negative in the world around us.

Comments: Hi ! I think you have right, in this film whos many christians parallels. I can say iven more, everything in it was to show people have they live now and that they can be free only through love and fanks this " kiss of love" from God. We all mast do the same in our live, we kant wait only for somebady else " The One " who save as. I thin this film is a great gnostic massage to the people wich ll' find somthin else in it not only special effekts... This side is really great I like it I be waqitig for news from you... :-) greatings from Warsaw, Kasia

Comments: The parallel is very interesting, but I don't think it covers the complete double reading the story has. First of all, remember that the creator of the concept of soul was Pitagoras, who happened to think that this world could be reduced to numbers. Now, Plato, based on Parmenides and Heraclitus tried to join the ideas of statism and movement to try to explain knowledge. That is the way a belief in another world appeared in the Greek philosophy, that is the reason that made Plato say that this world is suffering and man should die as soon as possible to go to a perfect world. The world of idea and the material world is clearly showed in the story. Around that time you can find the birth of buddhism in the East, religion and philosophy which speaks about Siddharta, the One who showed the path to all the followers of that religion. What I mean is: the story has a clear parallel with the Christian conception of the world, if you want to see it from that point of view, but don't limit yourself to only that point of view. After his resurrection Neo is able to understand the world, he realizes that this world is only a mere illusion (Schopenhauer, buddhism) and he gets to dominate it only because he understands it. Rememeber that at the end he sees the world reduced to numbers, digits, which the script justifies with the computer program the Matrix is. Christianism has not created anything new, but is a mixture of the conceptions of the world the ancient peoples had, their philosophy, their mythology. I think the story tries to achieve something more profound than just the parallel with Christ, it tries to show the search for the "light", for the knowledge that has characterized the story of humanity.

Comments: Very nice page. A couple of small problems, first, I think you should try to work all these points into a coherent argument, not just a list of comparisons. Second, the 72 seconds to 72 hours thing is stretching it more than just a little. Other than that, it looks good.

Oh, and did I mention The Matrix rocks!

Comments: i have red your comparison of christ with neo. i agree with you on this. But what does it mean if a script writer has used the life of christ (or the chracter of him)creating a lead role in a hollywood action based movie?... Why do you and too many people here acts like found of the meaning of life?..Simply why to build a website to spread your view of movie chracter. i actually think that the movie has a lot to talk on, especially on the sci/f genre for the late 90's. it can be a milestone for sci/f films such as the William Gibson's novel "Neuromancer" on literature. Yt also can trigger a philosophical debate too. (thats one of the reasons of its being a classic for the genre)But i really cant understand what changes if a script writer uses christ as a model for his creation of a character???... Does this make the movie holly for the christians?? or a sign of doomsday getting closer??? :)

Comments: Faaar Out!! (too much for 70´s expressions, but anyway, is valid!!) Look man, what a bunch of parallalelisms and likeness to Jesus Christ this flick has!! haven't seen it yet, but I´m running now to the cinema nearest!! Well, just to add to the brainstorming opinions: I´ve noticed since few years ago that everything hollywood and movies, tv, and so is bringing us to hear, see and interact to, is plagued with subliminal and hidden messages that a whole lot of people ever notice. I´m trying to keep my mind and soul as clean and fresh as I could, ´cause I´ve been feeling like "something" is about to happen in the near future. Science, an SF,are giving us signals. Nature is shaking us mankind even harder and frequently with catastrophic phenomena of all kinds! Spirituality is beginning to take flight inside the hearts of even more people and goes head-to-head with all the opposite stuff there would be!! To finish my speech: Keep clear, clean thoughts, try to feel them with love and positive power. We really don´t know what all those other people knows about the future (Hey Keanu, speak to us, give us some feedback!!) You know what I mean!! SO BE IT!! PEACE BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND SIBLINGS!! Comments: A must see movie!!!. I saw it two times. Each sentence, each color, each detail in that movie almost has meanings. I think it is a philosophical movie (postmoderism movie), not a futuristic movie. I think this movie is not only made based on/pararel with Christianity, but also show where this world will go. I think in the next century more people will worship technology (conciously/unconsiously). Also teaches us that everything is relative. No absolute truth and people think they are can save themselves. They are god to themselves. The next century war is the mind war. For Christians, this is a huge challange.

Comments: Please don't get freeked out by this, but while I was in bed this morning I read a book called Whole Prayer by Walter Wangerin in this he talks about the 5 parts of prayer (read the book!!!). After reading this I said a prayer which went along the lines of "Awesome God, who knows all and has unlimited wisdom. Who knows what I want even before I ask it and by your wisdom grants me what I need (not what I want). Grant me the knowledge and wisdom of everything, so that I may use this gift in the service of you in everything I do, for I know you have a greater purpose for me. I ask this in the name of your son Jesus Christ, for whom you gave boundless knowledge and wisdom so he could do your work to his death and resurrection. Amen." Almost immediately after asking for this God gave me his answer a clear message wrapped up in The Matrix. How wonderful this message was that I had to get up and access the web site (I am so moved by this I am shaking now) immediately. So here I am. I have my own opinions about The Matrix and I will enter these in the appropriate forum Book 6. The Matrix has a message for us all both Christians and non-Christians. Take the red pill, open the door to Jesus, let him into you lives and start to make a difference. Amen Keith (renamed Peter the Rock by an unknown Christian at a Christian festival called Grapevine on the UK August Bank Holiday, in Lincolnshire, England.) I have provided my e-mail address in the faith that it will not be abused, keep the faith!.

Comments: The movie is one of the best movies put out by Hollywood lately, though I had reservations about the glorification of violence that was present in the film. If we are to revolt agianst our current system we should attempt to do so peacefully. Violent revolt is a step backwards rather than a step forwards. We need more men like Morpheus to give us the red pill.

I am now starting to believe, which brings security and peacefulness to my mind. The Matrix is a modern day Bible which can be studied over and over again, and things can be learnt. I don't want to get too deep but, what if there was an external world to what we know, and The Matrix is a message sent from the other side. A message telling us not to be afraid, but believe. As far as I know The Matrix was the beginning, it will be interesting to see the evolution in the sequels.

Comments: I just saw The Matrix and found it a thought-provoking work that sets it apart from most Hollywood trash. The Messianic symbolism is a very definite part of the movie. To start with I didn't know if it would be entirely profane or if this was a genuine modern parable to explore what Jesus means in 21st Century terminology. I came away thinking the latter: as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ I was not offended by the film but felt it was a genuine exploration of certain aspects of faith and the great surprise God will reveal to us after judgement. This surprise - whilst the movie had a dark vision of 'reality', God will have a wonderful reality waiting for us - the Bible says that it will be more incredible than ANYTHING mankind can imagine. After you see this movie, that takes some thinking about doesn't it? The use of the tumbling code on the computer screens that show the matrix is fascinating. God created the world by his word. The works of Jesus can only be understood by his word. A person can only become part of the new creation by believing that word. What is a word but a bit (byte) of information that is strung with others into sentences (like programme code). Anything that gets people thinking about what it all means, about the creator and Jesus gets my vote of approval.

Comments: I LOVE the site! I see a lot of symbolism in the movie and do believe that there is a purposeful message being delivered. However, I don't think Christianity is it. It goes way beyond that. I agree with some of your parallels: a messiah, the biblical influence, the betrayal, John the Baptist as Morpheus...but that's not all there is to it. It would be interesting to compare it to other faiths. I look at it in a more global manner, one that does not limit the message to one faith but that can be understood and accepted by many (to a certain degree). I believe The Matrix was about awakening the spirit. This world we live in is not the only state we can exist in nor is it our ultimate goal. We must see the falsehoods around us in order to live in the spirit. Our minds (not separate from spirit) empower us to break and bend "rules" of this world. For example, time travel (if you believe it's possible), also think of people who tell incredible stories of recoveries or survival, psychics, out of body experiences... All of these are phenomena that cannot be explained within the constraints of this Earthly existance. The Matrix invites us to see everyday events and rules as the program of our lives, one that can impede us from trully living in spirit, which in turn impedes our goal of reaching what may be thought of as heaven or Nirvana. We were created in the likeness of God. We are capable of all the phenomena I mentioned earlier. We are Creators. We create when we have children, compose music, produce computer programs and of course movies like The Matrix, and so much more. This is the gift God gave us. Messiahs like Jesus were/are guides to lead us, show us how much we can do and what our goal should be. I don't believe in limiting myself or anyone else to one religion. Why impose limits on a search for God? Love of God? service to God? This is why I like to look at the movie in a more diversified way. I think the message is more ...eclectic,embracing a variety of faiths. I think It's GRRREAT that you have this site. It helps people awaken their spirits (by whichever faith they choose). It helps others see the messages in our everyday lives. THANK YOU!

I have a parallel for you my friend

How about comparing this movie to the occult art of astral projection and near death experience Once people learn astral projection or have a near death experience They often come back with some type of "supernatural ability" And this is often not intentional it just comes with the territory of the astral realm What if a person set out to break the barriers between the astral world and our "real" world What if we found out that our world was like the matrix and the astral plane was like the other realm or vice-versa I often think about that What if the astral plane is the place we can go to be "downloaded" like in the movie when he was downloaded with all types of martial arts abilities What if the people who actually seek to "improve" themselves in the astral realm come to our world with what seems like super abilities Maybe that can account for some myths religions and the abilties of prophets and high level martial arts students This is only a theory A theory I am working on

Comments: Look not for the message inside the movie. There is no message. It is not suposed to tell you anything. No answer, no question, no truth. It is just suposed to make you understand, make you think! Think! Are you doing it wrong all over again? You've been reading the Bible, the books of Budha or even the Coran and thinking that all the answers are there. Do you not wish to think for yourself? Are you so sure you made the rigth question before accepting the answer? These books and "messages", like this movie and so many other things that cross are life are not suposed to give us the answers - the messages - that calm our minds. Just the opposite. They are suposed to trouble our mind. This movie... like the Bible or whatever you want it to be... is just a DOOR. Now you must open it, fin your WAY and walk it. You never even open the door!!! Just finding the door is enough hapiness for you. So, there is a message there... now, how about opening the door and create the real important messages for you life and existance?!?! Accepting the message just because you think you finally got the answer is just another "mind job". Look not for the message inside the movie. Think it... think everything. Think yourself and reality around you. Make the questions... don't just sit waiting for the answers. And... it's a great, great movie.... but... it's just a movie.

THE MATRIX IS FICTION, BUT IT DOES MAKE YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT TRUELY IS REALITY AND WHAT IS NOT! IT REMINDED ME OF THE CAVE OF PLUTO!! I ALSO LIKED THE MESSIAH-LIKE STORYLINE, VERY SUBTLE AND DEEP. IN MY VIEW THE MATRIX NOT ONLY IS A WONDERFULL SUCCES FOR A FILM, IT ALSO TELLS THE MOST TOLD STORY, THE STORY WHICH WE ALL SHOULD KNOW.

Comments: I really think that you are rigth! I didn't realized this in the movie, but I felt sometimes that it was very similar . Now that I read what you think , I think I was rigth. What do you think about new age? do you think that human will have an evolution to another dimension? ( 4th? ) . I really think so, thats why we are still far from jesus. Some people say that we are going to be less heavy in the future, that 's why we have to avoid eating meat . What do you think of new age? I am catholic because I love my church but I also like to keep open my spirit. Regards Antonieta

I have nothing else but to thank you because I think the matrix is one of the few movies that is really worthwhile to see. In my personal case I have seen it four times already and I still wanna go to the theatre to see it again. Very nice job by comparing!!! I am interested in the connections between the film's philosophy and that of Bishop Berkeley. His theory was that our everyday world is a virtual reality and God is the computer behind it all. I hadn't thought much about the messiah angle before.

Comments: Some very interesting ideas happening at this site. One thing I noticed, however . . . You used Zion to be a biblical reference in the movie, but there is another reference which is quite likely closer to the truth. In Neuromancer (a novel by William Gibson, ie the whole cyberpunk thing which The Matrix takes a great deal of influence) the space station owned by the Jamaican ganja worshippers is called Zion (notice that Tank and Dozer are black). Other correlations to Gibson's work is Keanu Reeve's fascination with the whole Cyberpunk thing, an earlier film, Johnny Mnemonic was actually written by Gibson, although fell rather short of the mark in it's adaptation to the screen. Anyway, i'll stop raving on now. Bye

To mention Budah, and not mention Krishnah etc. Just would not be right. They all share similarities in there life, initiation and death. Good subject for any time.............. Let's hope for No. 2.

I suggest you watch 'The Life Of Brian' next and then you can make some more pointlessly ball crunching revelations about that. No offence but we all knew. In actual fact 'The Life Of Brian' has a lot more to offer in terms of unveiling the stupidity of mass religion. Nice site though, you know more html than me at least. All the best, Qoobie

The point of the site is to point out the parallels between Neo's life and that of Christ. But to say there's nothing deep about this film?? I disagree. I agree with all those parallels with Christianity, but it seems to me that it has a Buddhist idea in its basis - the world around humans is unreal, they are sleepers and the One woke up - it's like the story of Siddhartcha, right?

Comments: RE: "The Matrix" Hello, I just saw "The Matrix" this weekend and was astonished to see how much Christian sybolism/ parallelism/parabolics was involved in the story line and certain key dialogues in this movie. Let me sum it up in one sentence which is Biblical, but is the title of a certain piece of music by Bach, "Sleepers Awake!". True Christians know God alone has awaken them from the sleep of godlessness, He has wretched them from their dispair. And it is not something you can explain to someone who is not a christian, they have to become one to know what it is. But God does use us to speak His word to them, but it does fall on deaf ears if they are not yet saved. Also Christ Jesus (fully man and fully God Himself) was of course spoken by prophets to be the Messiah who would "set the captives free". While the movie had some violence in it, is was mainly 'in the (computer) matrix' and the Bible often uses terms of "warfare" to symbolize what Jesus would do, to battle the nation of Satan, and win over death and sin, to bridge the gap between God and man. Biblically, there are two nations, that of God, and His people, and that of Satan, and all who are yet unsaved. In the movie the gatekeepers kept watch to make sure all the sleeping people were kept living in a lie. Also, it is said the people in the matrix are our enemies while they are in the matrix. This is true Biblically in that Jesus said to "turn the other cheek to your enemy" and "love your neighbor"... you see, your enemy is your neighbor, because they deny and are in fact against God, and Christ. "The wicked desireth the net of evil men..." -Proverbs 12:12 "What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not." -Jonah 1:6 See what I mean!!!???? :-) I WAS WONDERING if the author himself was a Christian, attempting to express some deep sentiments about being Christian which most cannot understand. Do you know the author's name and email address? Thank you. Peter Baitz pbaitz@trimatrix.com See also http://truthway.org PS: "TriMatrix" is our company name for several years, and refers -to us- to the Trinity of God, with His word spreading around the world like a matrix. ;-)

Anyways, I think this movie is AWESOME! I love how it makes everyone think. I was particularly hit by the part where the Agent is comparing humans to a virus. Interesting comparison... I also find it interesting how you are all analyzing it with relation to Christianity and religion. Makes me think that a really good movie of some sort might be useful in getting the message across, not that you'd want to make it seem like you were advocating a shoot-em-up type deal. Anyhow. I just saw the film yesterday and the thoughts that were rolling around in my head is that everything they show in the film is not inconceivable there are many people around who view the world as they do in the film and have the gifts to use mind over matter . It's something how alot of what has come out is sci fi films in the past seems to be coming true.I left the film with only two words in my mind, what if? And that's the great thing about a film like this is that it makes you consider the possibilities out there that other people wouldnt even begin to consider.

You will go too fast driving on autopilot at a subconscious level, as your conscious mind is busy processing all the information and ideas from the film. That's why so many people are going to see it again and again. There's just too much information on multiple levels to try and capture it all in just one viewing. I drag them to it and they don't get it (making me feel all alone) and making me wonder about their depth of being. What you get out of something has something to do with what you bring to that something. Know what I mean? What I love about this site is that you confirm my own views!!! (bahhahaaaa!!! every person's dream) But really, the movie has "got me". I already believe that our minds are capable of so much more, and that there is a spiritual reality available to us that we don't utilize. I very much believe that we need to set our minds free. This site has also suggested more Christ parrallels than what had already occured to me previously. I would love to get inside the heads of the authors (those two brothers)!!!

My friends and I can't stop talking about all the Christian overtones in the movie--many of which you have cleverly noted on you website. GOOD JOB! I was freed by Jesus from the "matrix" of sin Easter of 1994. So, the movie is a definite "anniversary" gift of sorts (in light of its content and release date) Thanks for honoring Him with your website--you are blessed for that. May many others who are searching the Matrix for the ONE find faith in Jesus Christ as a result of this movie and the Wachoski Bros. undeniable modern-day messiah message in it. Comments: I've written before, I'm keeping an eye on the site. I read the allegorical analysis you put up. I was interested until the more miniscule details were being forced into conforming with passages in the Bible. I also was quite displeased with the "failings" section, which presumes that there was a purpose in the first place to make Neo _exactly_ like Christ. Ah well. I must say that some of the people in the Book of Life are interesting. But you really draw the crazies out of the woodwork. I know that the Matrix may seem to be a good forum for one's thoughts on the coming Apocalypse for some people (I'm rolling my eyes here), but it really isn't. Oh well, religious fervor is an interesting thing. By the way, I appreciated the responsible response (that sounds redundant) to my previous writing. I still maintain that Christianity is merely another religious mythology (in the sense that it has a story to it) the Wachowskis drew from, not the focus.

Comments: good movie. interesting site. astute observations... a few (perhaps unrelated ones) of my own: first, the line between the warring sides is not as clearly divided as most would like to imagine. Just as Lucifer was god’s most favored angel, technology is humankind’s most precious creation. We, the organic, have created a possibly monstrous inorganic. Machines are simply extensions of ourselves, and what we fear in technology is what we fear in ourselves. I’m no religion expert, but in my past years of church going, I would venture to say that the bible means to show the most horrifying manifestation of Satan is in ourselves, and, by extension, what we create. Second, when neo first meets the messiah finder, morpheus repeatedly refers to lewis carroll’s infamous reality twister "alice in wonderland." however, just before neo wakes to the matrix and the real world, cypher makes reference to "the wizard of oz." Hence, from the start, cypher is somehow out of sync. He creates his character apart from the other "freedom fighters,” not one of them from the beginning. Lastly, (at least important), did anyone else notice that laurence fishburne appears to be reading his lines in the scene in which he first explains the oracle and its prophecy to neo in his cell on the nebuchadnezzer?

Comments: I agree with all that has written in this site. Actually, I just came from the movie and logged in immediatelly as I came home. This is the first site I saw about the movie and think I'm going to see lots of it. I'm a journalist who just came out from university. My monography was all about cyberculture. As I knew some of the things that were being told on the movie, I was terrified. This is THE movie of cyberculture. This is a prediction of the near future. Dodge that! Log in! Live on!

Comments: The Matrix ? a masterpiece in everything.... the plot, it's truly amazing.... the matrix vs. messiah ? Well the movie is about " one man saving the world " so why not ? one thing is for sure, it's the best Sci Fi/Action movie ever made, really shows how fare technology has come, and what it has to offer.... best of all.... it makes us think, with a little smile... wondering if what we see is true...

Comments: Those of you who have noticed the christian symbology in this movie are in fact correct. However, this layer lies within a greater theosophical concept: gnosticism, as seen from a christian context. For example, the oracle tells Neo to read the sign above the door. Nosce te ipsum - "Know thyself". Similarly, Christos states in the third saying of the Gospel of Thomas, "If you will know yourself, then you will become known. However, if you will not know yourself, then you will live in poverty, and it is you who are that poverty." Other Christian Gnostic themes include the alienation that precedes awakening, the awesome terror when the lie is revealed, the transmigration of the soul, and the strict requirement that only those who are ready are awakened. Why would anyone want to leave the matrix for cold reality? Because the matrix is a lie. Why would anyone want to leave orthodox christianity for Christian Gnosticism....?

For a list of starting points, eat.

"The Serpent whispered in the woman's ear, so they partook of the fruit, and stepped out of the matrix."

Comments: Matrix is just about the best movie my husband and I have seen in a long time! I was so suprised when I read what your analagy of the movie was, we spent hours talking about it, and wondered if we were the only ones who felt this way. We are both Christians, and thought how awesome it is to see a movie with such a great theme that points to our Lord Jesus Christ. Not to point out that it has alot of action ( Loved the Kung-fu! ) which we enjoy! It's about time that movies like the Matrix came out, a REAL movie! There are so many movies out today that have no meaning, I really hope to see more like this that points to Jesus, after all, he is our savior in this world of darkness!

Comments: You Xers are always finding new ways to amaze me. You, "C",are a very intuitive young man. God will bless you. Consider the other side of the coin also, the Anti-christ is coming and will soon be on the scene. In Christianity, close to being Christian doesn't count - remember the man that said,"I was almost convinced..." It is great when you know enough about Jesus that you can even draw the paralells (sp) you did.. But the 'stage' must be set for the opposition also. Remember,"When armies surround Jerusalem, look up, for your redemption draweth nigh..." Love all your generation - you are wonderful - I trust our world into your hands... Mom

Comments: How greatful I am that someone else out there saw the same things in this film that my husband and I saw. Some of the "pointers" were very obvious (ie. names, the Chosen One, etc.) Some were more subtle. This story could also be read as Neo (anagram for the One) representing anyone of us... he is a seeker who finds the accepted world view as "not quite right". He has to make a choice (red or blue) that will forever change him (how, now he is not sure)that he can never go back (once you've glimpsed the Kingdom, how could you choose to dwell in the kingdom of man and sin?). The Neo as Messiah theory breaks down as it is accepted that Jesus "knew" he was the Chosen One (Neo doesn't know; is skeptical or afraid to be the One). If we read Neo as any one of us (choosing a life in Christ; being transformed into a Christlike being) then the imagery works perfectly. A regular old human sees the world (read "the World of Mankind") as flawed/not quite right; he/she makes a choice (not quite sure of the total ramifications of the choice, but confident); is reborn; "trains" and receives new "programming" in the faith; and is transformed into a creature after Christ. As a Christian, one understands the ultimate "death" of the body in this kingdom, and the eventual ressurrection in the next kingdom. (See "Illusions" by Richard Bach... the Jonathan L. Seagull author, for a similar treatment). One question/problem...in Christianity, the Reality that God is trying to help us see is ultimately a great place. In the film, Reality sucks; the world is destroyed...our memories a sham. Reality has no seeming hope. Could anyone blame Cypher in the film for the path he chooses?

Comments: I've only seen the Matrix once but that is all it took for me to be inspired to become a computer programmer and learn C. This movie is a milestone for movies about cyberculture, an great one at that. I'm awaiting to see if the 13th Floor will also be as good, although I have my doubts. Amongst the other great cybeculture films are Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Hackers. If you haven't seen these films, please do.

Comments: I haven"t look through what's others visiters comments, i think may be this can give me a undisturb mind or original feelings that appear in my brain when i watched this movie. I'm a buddhist, i knew a concept from buddha's teaching, at one time i think i understand about it and practice about it in my life. But this was not longer when i accept the common think of most of the people in this world, i mean i work hard just to get some thing that people think we should get it. I started forget almost all i knew form buddha's teaching. This movie bring me back closer to the concept, and i feel like i start doubt about my life and start to think gain like when i was 18. I wrote this when i came back from the cinema 1 1/2 hour ago( now is 2:47 a.m), i just afraid i will lost all this feelings if i go to sleep now and wake up at the other morning. I just don't know what will be happen after i wrote all this thing, but some thing in my heart tell me that there is some thing. hooo! May be i strart to wasting time again Great movie it is. May be you tell me some thing if you know.

Comments: Unfortunately I have seen this superb movie (on the 12th of May 99 - 4 times till today the 14th ) on video because it is not yet released in Cyprus but I can't think of anything else except this movie. I was always interested in what life is all about, I have read lots of books but this movie is like a whole new way of thinking, like a door is opened and we are all waiting for Morpheus to come for us and show us the real world, because actually it is a dream world, like a computer program (others call it Karma, Fait etc.) and we are all following our path unable to do anything unless we ca FREE OUR MIND. I could go on and on writing my thoughts but I have to stop for now. Thank you for the chance to express something.

Comments: This is pretty intensive study on an extraordinary movie. I actually worked on the film as the Supervising Foley Editor (that's a fancy term for a particular sound effects category, my apologies if you knew that already). After being hammered with the initial symbolism, the multi-layered aspects started coming through in waves after each successive viewing. When I get the time, I really want to get into the text at this great site! The Matrix is the most satisfying movie I've worked on in my career, and it's great to see so much attention being paid to it - not because I worked on it and I'm a bitchen guy/hollyweird stud, but because of knowing there are people out there talking about such things now that were'nt talking about what they were'nt talking about... or somethin'... Anyways, keep up the chatter, and I'll see you in the sequel...
